Vivaldi’s “Propter Magnam Gloriam”

The repertoire is broad and eclectic every season. Approximately one third of the songs are new to the choir each year, one third is carried over from the previous season and one third is brought back from the extensive music library that has been building since the choir’s inception in 2005.

The chosen songs are suited to the voices and abilities in Sound Opportunity each season. The majority of pieces include four part harmony arrangements for soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices. Most of the pieces are sung in English, but every year other languages will be included to one degree or another. The repertoire is challenging enough to ensure continual learning opportunities are given to each chorister, while the rehearsal process is complete enough to bring a level of comfort and confidence even to the newest singer. Other criteria for song selection include consideration of thematic content, inclusion of a variety of genres and musical eras, levels of enjoyment, learning opportunities and performance-specific needs.
